As part of the commitment by the Godwin Obaseki led administration in Edo State to boost food security and and job creation, over 200 farmers have received training on different farming areas in Orhionmwon local government area of the state.
The two days training program which was held in Benin City the state capital, was championed by the Orhionmwon local government council in partnership with African Oil and Gas Company Ltd (AFOG) and United Bank For Africa UBA was geared towards reducing unemployment and also improved farming in the area.
Speaking on the essence of the event, chairman, Orhionmwon council, Hon Okoro Sylvester represented by his Vice Chairman, Mr Christian Iweka, said they decided to train people inline with the state governor’s agricultural program to enhance food security and job creation.
Hon Okoro, said the council is keen in making sure that Orhionmwon local government takes its proper place in the area of agriculture in Nigeria and Edo state in particular.
He advised the participants to make the best use of the opportunity and see themselves as lucky ones among millions and assured them of the council’s assistant in any area of their needs.
Also speaking, the program Manager, AFOG Mr Jones Iyobosa, said the training was a capacity building targeted to equip the participants and prepare them mentally for quality delivery in the area of farming.
Some of the participants at the event said though they weren’t expecting cash at the end of the programme, but thanked the boss for the opportunity given to them to equip themselves.
