Editorial Standards

Our Mission

The Standard Gazette exists to inform Nigerian and global readers with credible, fact-checked, and independent journalism. We hold power to account, give voice to citizens, and report the news without fear or favour.

How We Report

Every article goes through a three-step pipeline: reporting, editing, and fact-checking. Whenever possible, we name our sources. When sources speak on background, we explain why anonymity is justified.

Corrections Policy

Mistakes are inevitable. When we get something wrong, we correct it transparently. Substantive corrections appear at the top of the affected article with the date and time of the change.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Our newsroom strives to reflect the diversity of the communities we serve in gender, region, ethnicity, religion and class. We commit to inclusive sourcing and inclusive language across all coverage.

Funding & Independence

We earn revenue through reader donations, advertising, and sponsored content. Sponsored content is always clearly labelled and is never produced by the newsroom. Advertisers have no influence over editorial decisions.

Ownership

The Standard Gazette is published by The Standard Gazette. The publisher and managing editor are responsible for editorial decisions.
