The Governor of the State of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola has yestaday described University Education as a Compulsory Social Service that must be given to a large number of Nigerian Youths affordably if we want a true turn around in the Governance of our dear nation, Nigeria and the continent at large. While addresing the august gathering on the topic; ‘Evolution of Private University Education and Issues Miscellany in Governance of the Federation’, He said Government owned tertiary Institutions only, cannot admit students that are graduating yearly from our Secondary Schools. as at 1993, he said only 30% of Qualified Secondary School leaver are able to gain admission to further pursue their Tertiary Education, this He said is a situation that led to the establishment of Privately owned Universities as approved by the National Universitie Commision (NUC) and since, the total number of the Private owned institution has risen to 69, out of which he said 21 are owned by Religious Organisations and those as since been aiding Quality Education delivery in Nigeria.

While describing University Education as a way by which Students acquire the Knowledge and Courage to face the Challenges that lies infront of them in shaping the Society through productivity and Quality Delivery, He charged the Graduants to dare to face life Challenges with Courage, as this is the only way they can get whatever they want out of it. He said; Life itself is not fair enough to give you what you want, You have to live a well Spartanned lifestyle of Dare and Courage,

‘I dare you to face Life’s Challenges as this is the only way you can get whatever you deserve in life, and it is also the original purpose of acquiring Education. Also He encourage them to first embark on a journey of Self Conquest and Discovery, Only the ones that are succesful in Conquering their Fears and Anxiety would be useful in creating Solutions to problems in the Society and have the mandate to change the continent for good by being Productive.

Aregbesola exonerates the management team of the University for rendering Impactful academic empowerment for making Changes to Young people over the years, He then went on to advise the Graduating Students that “If they will not make a positive impact to the African society from their academic exploit, their Certificates will be worthless”.

He said; If paying a Huge sum of money to acquire University Education will always keep us where we are, it is better we stop Building Universities. and as to this He advise them to come up with creative ideas in their different fields that will put our society on the fore front of global development side by side with the developed western Countries.

On the issue of Tax payment, Ogbeni said, Not until the tax payers have themselve armed with a sense of Responsibility towards the Government, we can not have a sane Government. He said, Not until we take away the biased mentality that Government officers are feeding fat on our taxes, we may not be heading towards Societal and Developmental progress, He went further to analyse that the token of N1500 being paid annually as individual tax payment cannot comeasurate with the expected Infrastructural development in the state, yet some will not even pay.

As to this, we need a reorientation, we need to see tax payment as our civil responsibility to our States’ developmental growth.
