13-year-old boy Jeffery Ugiagbe dies after sexual assault

The 13-year-old secondary schoolboy, Jeffery Ugiagbe who was sexually assaulted has died, Standard Gazette has learned.

The boy, who had been admitted at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) died on Wednesday evening.

Jerry was one of the 9 boys who were sexually assaulted by Ovie Otokgbo, 43, originally from Isoko in Delta state but resides at No 15, Ubegwi street, off Uwasota road in Benin.

The mother of the boy wept following her son's death. She described Jerry as a "very intelligent boy with a promising future."

The mother lamented that the family borrowed money from every corner to save Jeffery's life but cried that they now owe up to three million naira (N3m).

The father of the boy told newsmen that "I want him go be sentenced to death, not life inmprisonment.

"We cannot eat one square meal now because of the incurement. I borrowed money here and there for the admission. I have not paid anything, the money I am owing is closed to N3m."

The mother disclosed that his senior's son, whose name was not mentioned, also borrowed money from his friends in an effort to save his brother's life. "My senior son borrowed money from his friends to save Jeffery. Doctor said they can do it, we tried our best," the told journalists.

The grandma who was seen crying said "He is my grandson. It hurts. Please help, I need help. They borrowed money everywhere."

The culprit, Ovie told journalists that "I have slept with 9 boys. The boy is in my area and one other one I slept with introduced him to me. I only slept with him once."
