67-year old man attempts suicide on 3rd Mainland Bridge on Birthday
The Lagos State Police Command's Rapid Response Squad (RRS) was able to prevent a 67-year-old man from committing himself on his birthday.
Officers on patrol of the 3rd Mainland Bridge stopped the old man, named Oluwatoye Bamgboye, from Oju-Ore, Ogun State, from jumping into the lagoon on Tuesday, April 5.
Bamgboye revealed that he had to sell his house, land, and car due to a personal problem, which led to his suicide attempt. He was still unable to fix the problem with this approach. He received a loan, but the situation lingered.
He went on to say that he had gotten a job, but that when he returned, he was told that the job had been given to someone else.
He also stated that as a result of all the problems he encountered, his wife abandoned him.
“Today being my birthday, I have decided to end it all. The burden and the frustration are too much for me to bear. My wife has abandoned me in the process,” he said.
The 67-year-old guy was attempting to leap into the Lagos Lagoon towards Lagos Island when the officers stopped him, according to the police statement.©Standard Gazette, 2021.
