Contrary to speculations of her death, the kidnapped former Delta State commissioner for Technical Education, Hon. Joan Onyemaechi, has been released by her abductors.

Onyemaechi, a former member of the House of Representatives, regained her freedom late Friday night, according to Police confirmation.

Although details surrounding her release were not known, it was learned that the former lawmaker had arrived at the state capital.

It was learned that the abductors had earlier demanded one billion naira as ransom, but it was not clear if any money was paid before she was set free.

The spokesman of the Delta State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the release of Onyemaechi, popularly known as Ada Anioma.

SP Edafe, however, did not give further details on the released kidnapped politician.

Onyemaechi was forcefully kidnapped by gunmen on July 30th from her Church premises along  DBS Road Asaba.

At least two persons, including a policeman, were confirmed killed by the gunmen, while others sustained gunshot injuries during the kidnap attack.
