The crisis rocking Ogheghe Community, which has led to loss of lives and properties in Ogheghe Community at Upper Siluko road in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State, has assumed a worrisome dimension as shops have been ransacked.
The crisis is reportedly between the inhabitants of Oghehe and some Hausa youths in the community.
The Ogheghe community is known for its peaceful coexistence among tribes and religions.
On Tuesday, 28 October 2025, the quiet community was in a state of disarray following the incident which occurred with a non-indigenous and a Benin-based business young man who was slain by an alleged Hausa boy known as Aboki Man.
According to the information gathered, angry mobs mobilised in what residents described as a reprisal attack, following the death of a young businessman identified as Chize, a victim of an Aboki man, leading to the razing of multiple shops.
Residents who spoke with The Standard Gazette anonymously said a young Benin boy from a neighbouring community bought a motorcycle for the Hausa man for business purposes. The agreement was that the Hausa man would use the motorcycle to earn and remit an agreed amount weekly.
Trouble started when it was discovered that the Hausa man absconded with the motorcycle, and the deceased tracked him to Oghehe Community and demanded the return of his bike.
The argument took a drastic turn, according to multiple eyewitnesses, when the Hausa man stabbed him.
“We heard that because of the bike issue argument came up between the owner known as Chize and the Aboki man. Before any settlement could come, we heard the aboki boy brought out a cutlass and stabbed Chize, who later bled to death, and the friend retaliated by killing Hausa people too,” the second in command of the Odionwere of the community, Pa. Jeremiah Egbon, told the Standard Gazette.
He added that Chize is not a resident of the Oghehe community but was born here (Oghehe).
He added, “We elders condemned the killings but expressed reservations over the number of deaths recorded in the reprisal attacks, which led to the destruction of shops”.
The Edo State command, in a statement, said thirteen suspects had been arrested as its Ekiadolor division was tasked with restoring normalcy in the area.
