No fewer than 20 passengers yesterday died in an accident that happened along the dual carriage Onitsha- Agbor-Abudu-Benin expressway in Edo state.
The accident happened between Ugoneki and Evbuobanosa near Abudu, headquarters of Orhiomwon council area of the state.
Our reporter gathered that about 90 percent of the passengers on board a commercial bus heading from Onitsha to Benin died in the carnage involving a heavy duty truck.
Eye witness said the accident involved a truck with registration number FST 280 XR and an 18seater Toyota bus with registration MKD 492 XB.
It was gathered that the bus loaded with passengers had inscription of NNTCL 670 at its back.
It was further gathered that all the passengers in the ill-fated bus had died in the process following the collision with the truck.
As at the time of this report it was not clear what exactly caused the fatal incident.
Meanwhile, the State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr. Samuel Odukoya when contacted last night confirmed the incident but disclosed that Abudu unit team of the command had been deployed to the area for rescue operation.
Odukoya stated that four of the victims involved in the carnage were taken to a nearby hospital and they later gave up the ghost.
