African Leaders and stakeholders Advocate Sustained Commitment Towards Making Education a Top Priority

The need for a consensus among African leaders to make the Development of Education an urgent priority has been canvassed by stakeholders at the 2024 Goodluck Jonathan Foundation Democracy Dialogue at the Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub on Airport Road, Benin City.

The event, which hosted a collection of African leaders at different levels, has its theme, “Functional Education and effective political leadership as a Panacea to Africa’s Growth and Development.

The high-level dialogue creates a platform for Africa’s leaders to discuss the role of Education in fostering Africa’s growth and development through investment in Education. 

Host  Gov. Of Edo State, Mr Godwin Obaseki, noted that despite Africa’s massive youth population, the challenge of engendering sustainable development has bedevilled the continent.

At the event, the former President of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta, advocated investment in Education to foster diversity, inclusivity, and economic growth and prepare Africa’s leaders for tomorrow.

Keynote Speaker and Chairman of Council, Cavendish University, Uganda, Prof. Olubayi-Olubayi, urged setting up special schools for the most gifted and talented children to drive inclusiveness. 

For Nigeria’s former President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, the dialogue represents a platform to review, prospect and invest in Education.

He said the platform is used to bring Africans together to fight one developmental cause that will benefit the people on the continent.
  
Special guests include a former President of Benin Republic, Thomas Boni Yayi, and a former Vice President of Nigeria Arc. Namadi Sambo, Minister for Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, a former Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party and former Governor Of Anambra State, Dr. Peter Obi 
were unanimous in their belief that Education remains a sure way to develop, progress, and prosper.
 
The UNDP and the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation signed an agreement, with a copy of the MOU presented to the founder and former President.

The goodwill message of His Royal Majesty, Ewuare II, Oba of Benin,  represented by three palace chiefs, was delivered by his daughter, Princess Ikuoyemwen Ewuare, while the Esama Of Benin, Sir Chief Dr Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion underscored the gains of the dialogue.
