The leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) Ibraheem El-Zakzaky is on his way back to Nigeria after spending three days in India.
El-Zakzaky was flown there for a medical trip.
The spokesman of the movement, Ibrahim Musa disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.
Musa accused the federal government of frustrating the treatment of the IMN leader.
“Following lack of a breakthrough in the impasse that ensued in the treatment in New Delhi of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, it is now confirmed that the Sheikh is on his way back to Abuja,” the statement read.
“In a video message sent through his office, the Sheikh said it was decided that they will be taken to the airport to be flown back to Nigeria. He has left Delhi by 17:00 Nigerian time. He prayed that may that be the best option in the circumstances.
“The Nigerian government’s interference and scuttling of the whole process rather than supervision as ordered by the court is the direct cause of the impasse. The government never wanted the medical leave in the first place, and did whatever to stop it by all means possible.”
The IMN leader had earlier complained of the situation in India, describing it as worse than Nigeria experience.
On Wednesday, an audiotape was released where he said he was under a heavy security
He claimed the doctors he was used to were not available, stating that he did not trust the ones assigned to examine him.
However, the federal government argued that El-Zakzaky did not comply with the terms of the Kaduna high court.
El-Zakzaky demanded five-star hotel and his passport, says PM
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information Grace Gekpe disclosed that El-Zakzaky demanded his passport and free movement.
The IMN leader also demanded to receive visitors and be checked into a five-star hotel, Gekpe disclosed.
She claimed that El-Zakzaky’s behaviour was so grumpy that the India authority was willing to return him to Nigeria.
My Father Is Suffering From Lead Poison – El-Zakzaky’s Daughter
The daughter of the IMN leader, Suhaila had told the BBC that her father was suffering from lead poisoning which could lead to his early death.
She said her father deserves proper medical attention as he has been in detention for the past four years.
“I am really worried… especially because of the lead and cadmium poisoning,” she said.
“His doctors say if he gets to a certain level his organs could start failing and that’s really scary because that means he could just die at any moment.”
