The Edo State Police Command has dismissed as false reports circulating on social media alleging that students writing the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination, WASSCE, at Green Park Academy were kidnapped.
The clarification follows widespread panic generated by the rumour, which spread across various social media platforms on Monday evening.
A visit to the school reveals that the school management labelled the claim as fake news and insisted that no such incident occurred.

However, Concerned parents, guardians and residents were thrown into anxiety after messages circulated online alleging that students sitting for the ongoing WASSCE at Green Park Academy along Aduwawa Expressway had been kidnapped.
However, checks indicate that no such incident occurred.
The Edo State Police Command, through its Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, in a statement, described the report as a false narrative allegedly propagated by a woman blogger, popularly known as “Azawoman,” to create unwarranted panic in the state.
She stated that consequently, the Command has commenced steps to apprehend the originator of the false report for questioning and possible prosecution in accordance with extant laws.
“The Command strongly condemns the reckless spread of false information capable of undermining public confidence, causing fear among residents, and diverting attention from genuine security concerns. Such actions constitute a threat to public order and will not be tolerated.
Consequently, the Command has commenced steps to apprehend the originator of the false report for questioning and possible prosecution in accordance with extant laws”
Speaking on the incident, the Head of School, Green Park Academy, Mr Overy Cletus, said all candidates who sat for examinations on the day in question completed their papers peacefully and were safely dismissed from the school premises.
He further stated that students returned to school the following day for their scheduled papers and have continued their examinations without disruption, stressing that no such incident occurred.
“As you can see the students are writing their exams there is nothing kike that as it was portrayed in the social media the police were here and parents also came to ascertain and confirm what has deduce as fake news”
