A Niger Delta State group, Foundation for Human and Anti-Corruption Crusade (FHRACC) has accused the former governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi as the cause of the renewed militancy in Niger Delta.

In a statement signed by the National President, Alaowei Cleric Esq., said Amaechi attitude towards the late generated a feeling of hate between the people and the government.
The group accused Amaechi of ignoring his role as a bridge builder across ethnic lines as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Making reference to Minister of Transportation’s statement during the Uyo Town Hall meeting organized by the Federal Government, FHRACC said it is evident that Amaechi is out for his personal gain.
Alaowei said ” The vain-glory ego and crass display of arrogance towards the Niger Delta region by the Transport Minister, Rt Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi is the remote cause of the violent onslaught against the oil facilities by militants in the region.
“Amaechi’s attitude towards the region has caused a disparity between the Government and the region thereby making people to feel that the Government is a Niger Deltaphobe.
“As a Minister in the Government, his duty is to build bridges across political-cum ethnic lines but that is not the case with Amaechi. He chooses to create enemies for the Government rather than to initiate peoples-friendly programmes in order to breach the gap of governance.
“With his present show of arrogance at the Uyo Town Hall meeting organized by the Federal Government, we are convinced that Amaechi is pursuing personal vendetta against his perceived enemies, using his Office as a bait to score his cheap political points.
“Such a person is a persona non grata in public office as he will use his position to cause havoc for the Government. President Buhari should relieve Amaechi of his job as this is one bold step by the Government to return peace to the region.
“Amaechi’s anti-Niger Delta agenda which he is now displaying even on the alter of the macabre dance will be the greatest albatross to the Government’s peace initiatives.
“You cannot run a government by hatred. His attitude towards the Maritime University issue shows that he cares less about the development of the region.
“Even if the institution was established by his political rival, it is too costly to play politics with what is meant to bring development to the region.
“Amaechi’s loathly disposition to the proposed dialogue with the militants proved to us that he is averse to peace in the region. Such a person should not be allowed to preside over such a sensitive office.
“We commend President Mohammadu Buhari and the Petroleum Minister, Mr Ibe Kachukwu for showing genuine commitment in resolving the brick bath in the region.
“Mr President should not allow Amaechi to ruin the effort he has committed so far. Amaechi and the his acolytes are Trojan horses to peace in the region. We hereby call on Amaechi’s removal from his position.”
