Disturbed by the continued fall in the value of the nation’s currency ( naira), which has been strongly attributed to the failure of President Bola Tinubu’s economic policy, Nigerians on social media have dragged the Founder of Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboy for a remark that, “If not for God’s Intervention, Exchange Rate would have skyrocketed to N10,000 per a Dollar.

The Clergy received knocks from many Nigerians who alleged that he had been softly promoting and supporting the All Progressive Congress, APC-led government of President Bola Tinubu, whose policies have dealt more deadly blows on Nigerians than any regime before him.

Adeboye’s attackers claimed that the Bishop was among critics of former President Good Luck Jonathan, whose records were highly better regarding citizen’s welfare than Tinubu’s, questioning the rationale behind his silence in the face of economic and social oppression of the present government.

Throwing the first salvo was a musician and controversial Right Activist, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charlie Boy or Area Fada, he said,  “No pastor in Nigeria wey need redemption pass Pastor Adeboye of The REDEEMED, his own don dey too much.

“Oga Tinubu finds an appointment for this man to make us rest.

See “So people still go to his church to listen to this charlatan.
What an APC pastor.”

The United States, US based, Chinedu Nkwakuda, who also added his voice to attack the man of God on X platform, said, ”  It’s not only embarrassing but disgraceful to the Christian community to see the so-called pastor making this kinda comment, especially recalling his riotous past against govt that did far much better than the one he’s literally covering. So sad and absurd.”

Another Speaker, Kenneth KNN, said,  “REDEEMED my ass that is not a church. It is more like an APC “Christian” as this too is just a name, meeting ground.”

The barrage of attacks from the left and right on Baba Adeboye on social media also received condemnations from many others who came to his defence.

One of such is @Olu_ fash, who stated,” If what a man of God said is not sweet to your hearing, common sense should beckon on you to be sensible in your response. The barrage of insults that came from a particular tribe in the country to Pastor Adeboye’s comment is not strange because that’s who they are; they lack respect.”

Taiwo Babalola, who added his voice to the internet quarrel, equally disclosed, “In your own wisdom or d very lack of it, u should know this man is a revered man & d word God is their watchword. Saying if not for God shouldn’t be interpreted literally with a layman’s wisdom. God will surely not come down & do it but will use one of his instruments. Get wise.”

The controversy later degenerated into Igbos and Yorubas face-off by the X users, leading to threats from both sides for physical assault.
