Salem Chigozirim, a pastor with The Apostolic Church, Umuahia, has been charged with strangling a 45-year-old housewife, Virginia Ndife, and a lady, Chioma Nwoke, before a High Court in Umuahia, Abia State.

He was charged with three charges of attempted murder and demanded a payment.

On September 21, 2021, Chigozirim is believed to have strangled Virginia.

Mr Christian Ndife, the deceased's husband, claimed his wife went to their new house on 67, Agulu Street, Umuahia, on the day of the event to perform some work with the suspect, who was also a plumber.

"I saw that my wife was strangled with a blue bathing sponge in the neck; the entire room was scattered. The defendant wrote something on a sheet and placed on the ground that he was looking for some documents and when he called my wife, she told him to do his worst," Christian stated.

“He said he had done some plumbing services for my wife and also sent same message to my brother-in-law, Anthony Okeke, that he was looking for his keke documents.”

Mrs. Nwoke, the deceased mother, claimed her daughter had been strangled and "placed upside down at the foot of a tree."

She said the defendant was captured with Chioma's phone and ATM card when he was detained for Virginia's murder and his house was searched, and that he took a large sum of money from the deceased's bank account.

The suspect had also demanded N1.5m from the family of the deceased.

The case has now been adjourned till May 24, 2022.
