The Nigeria Police Force has given a detailed account of how Hoodlums attacked and vandalised police facilities in Benin City, Edo State.
The police expressed its regret over the unfortunate incidents, where its facilities – Ugbekun Police Station, Oba Market Police Station and Idogbo Police Post by persons posing as #ENDSARS.
The police in a statement on Monday via its official Twitter handle, assured the general public that it was on top of the situation to protect lives and properties in the state.
“The Nigerian police regrettably confirms the unfortunate attacks on Police Facilities – Ugbekun Police Station, Oba Market Police Station and Idogbo Police Post by persons posing as #ENDSARS.
The police called on parents and guidance to ensure their wards desist from any acts of violence under any guise.
“Protesters in Benin, Edo State, today, Monday, 19th October 2020. The Force is calling on parents/guardians to prevail on their children/wards to desist from acts of violence under any guise whatsoever.”
The Force promised to bring normalcy to the area and forestall further attacks.
“The Force is doing everything possible at the moment to bring the situation under control, protect the lives of innocent citizens and prevent further attacks on any other critical infrastructure in the state.”
Hoodlums masquerading as #ENDSARS protesters had unleashed mayhem on Police Facilities in Benin City, freeing inmates, before setting the stations ablaze.
The Special Adviser to a governor Godwin Obaseki on Media and Communication, Crusoe Osagie, in an interview confirmed that the hoodlums exchanged fire with security operatives at the Maximum prison in Benin City.
“The hoodlums are currently exchanging fire with the security personnel at the Maximum security prison in Oko, Benin City,” Osagie said.
