Standard Gazette crime correspondent Festus Alenkhe gathered that a motorist who was plying the route barely escaped the grip of the daredevil kidnappers.

The gunmen set out to kidnap him after shooting at his car but the driver boldly manoeuvred before tipping the security team who laid ambush for the kidnappers.

SG learned that the kidnappers emerged from the bush, set for another ambush of their potential victims before they came face to face with security agents.

Three of the suspected kidnappers believed to hail from the northern part of Nigeria were shot dead on the spot.

A motorist who spoke with Standard Gazette said, “Some kidnappers barricaded the ever-busy Benin-Auchi road, and we had to take refuge in a nearby Bush.

“The situation led to a serious traffic congestion on the road”.

Edo State Police Public Relations Officer SP Bello Kontongs, who confirmed the incident, said the police would not relent until the various highways linking Edo State were cleared of criminal activities.

He said Edo State remain a peaceful state and will not allow criminal elements to have a field day.
