The Nigerian government is experiencing De Javu after bandits abducted 15 Tsangaya schoolchildren and one woman in Gidan Bukaso, Gada Local Government Area (LGA) in Sokoto State.

The abductions have been confirmed by the police authorities in the state. The incident reportedly happened around 10:00 am.

The gunmen invaded the community, and on their way out of the town, they saw students rushing into their rooms, among which were abducted, the state police said on Saturday.

The Sokoto Police Command, Ahmed Rufai, said the Sangaya Islamic School belongs to one Malam Liman Abubakar.

He confirmed that the unfortunate woman abducted along with the school girls was also in the school compound at the time of the incident.

The police confirmed that there were no fatalities. However, officers and villagers have been mobilized to chase the gunmen and rescue the captives unhurt.

A few hours before the abduction, the Sokoto State Government held a ceremony for the passing out of the Community Guards Corps, a new security outfit set up to join other security agencies in combating banditry and other crimes in the North-West State.

Earlier in the week, 200 students were also abducted in neighbouring Kaduna State.

This is part of a renewed abduction of the terrorist groups the northern government preferred to call bandits.

The abductions have drawn reactions worldwide, including UNICEF, Amnesty International and other organizations.

The Nigerian government has also instructed its security chiefs to ensure the students are rescued.

The wife of the President, Remi Tinubu, has called for the death penalty for abductors whom she described as cowards.

VP Shettima and Governor Uba Sani hold a closed-door meeting with parents

Vice President Kashim Shettima and Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State held a meeting with the parents and relatives of the students abducted in Kuriga Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Shettima told the families that the government is determined to ensure that all the abducted children are returned to them safely.

He informed them that Mr Bola Tinubu had instructed security agencies to rescue the students while urging the media to be circumspect in their reportage about the incident.

The meeting was reportedly held closed doors.
