Bolanle Raheem: Killer cop ASP Drambi Vandi remanded at Ikoyi Prison

The Nigerian policeman, ASP Drambi Vandi, who shot and killed a lawyer in Lagos State, has been charged to court for the murder of Mrs. Bolanle Raheem.

The Lagos State Attorney-General, Moyosore Onigbanjo, SAN, filed a one-count charge against the ASP on Friday.

This is barely 24 hours after the Police Service Commission ordered Vandi's suspension over the killing of the lawyer.

The Charges, as obtained by Channels TV' read, "That you, ASP Drambi Vandi, on December 25, 2022, at Ajah Road, along the Lekki Expressway, Lagos, unlawfully killed one Omobolanle Raheem by shooting the deceased in the chest contrary to Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015."

The Lagos Attorney-General appeared before the Chief Magistrate Court in Yaba Lagos and applied for the killer cop to be remanded according to Section 264 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Lagos, 2015.

Moyosore Onigbanjo told the court that Vandi needs to remain in custody to enable the police to continue and conclude their investigation into the killing.

The Chief Magistrate, Adeola Olatunbosun, granted the request and remanded Vandi at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre.

The Magistrate also ordered that the case file be duplicated and a copy sent to the Director of Public Prosecution, Dr. Jide Martins, for legal advice.

The case was adjourned to January 30, 2023.
