Breaking: Court Gives Verdict on Emefiele amidst DSS tussle
An order prohibiting the DSS from detaining Godwin Emefiele, governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, was issued by a federal capital territory (FCT) high court sitting in Maitama (CBN).
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), who are listed as defendants, were also included in the restraining order that was issued by M.A. Hassan, the presiding judge, on Thursday.
A federal high court in Abuja previously turned down the DSS's request to detain Emefiele on terrorism-related allegations.
The development comes amid rumors that Emefiele's detention was politically motivated considering the potential effects that the naira's redesign and withdrawal restrictions may have on vote-buying in the 2023 elections.©Standard Gazette, 2021.
