The speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Justin Okonoboh has been impeached for yet to be identified reason.

It could be recalled that Okonoboh’s predecessor, Victor Edobor was impeached on a similar circumstances in 2016.

There has been a speculation on his impeachment since the impeached speaker assumed office almost a year ago.

Okonoboh became the speaker after the former speaker, Elizabeth Ativie resigned her position few days after she was sworn in.

The former speaker stepped down after a motion was moved by the Majority Leader, Folly Ogedengbe, under matters of urgency, for a change in the leadership.

Ogedengbe said the motion was important as it boost fairness, making sure the three senatorial districts was represented

It could be recalled that the then governor, Adams Oshiomhole is from Edo North and his then deputy, Pius Odubu is from Edo South, so Ativie stepped down as she is from the same district with the deputy governor.
The impeached speaker represents Igueben constituency in Edo Central senatorial district.
