The Federal Government has extended the deadline for NIN-SIM linkage from April 6 to May 6, 2021. The request for the extension was forwarded to President Muhammadu Buhari which he endorsed.
The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, disclosed in a statement on Friday.
Pantami, in a statement released on Friday said, “the meeting took place on Thursday, April 1, 2021 and an approval was given to extend the period of the NIN-SIM linkage to the 6th of May, 2021.”
Recall that The Standard Gazette had reported on the news that anyone yet to register on or before the April 6 deadline risks between 7 to 14 years of jail term.
The number of enrolment centres across the country has increased to about 3,800 and there’s been an increase in the number of monthly enrollment to 2.6 million.
51 million Sim cards are currently linked to NIN out of 150 million Sim cards.
The meeting was attended by key stakeholders, including the EFCC Chairman, telecommunications operators, NIMC etc.©Standard Gazette, 2021.
