President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday did not mince words over secessionists threat and insecurity in the South East.

The C-in-C of the armed forces evidently put on his army uniform in a statement made available on his Twitter handle.

“Many of those misbehaving today are too young to be aware of the destruction and loss of lives that occurred during the Nigerian Civil War. Those of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through the war, will treat them in the language they understand,” Buhari stated.

He also alleged that those fueling insecurity in the country wanted his administration to fail, hence they will be shocked by his response.

His statement has elicited reactions from Nigerians who mostly believe that if Buhari had channeled the same energy to defeat Boko Haram rather than embracing them and reintegrating them – a policy that did not work, the North East would have been secured.

The same twitter handle of the President had appealed to bandits to release abducted students of Greenfield University in Kaduna.

No killer herdsmen have also been apprehended and brought to book, yet, the energy of the former Army General is not charged towards justice.

He noted that his administration will ensure that elections were held in 2023 so as not to give the impression that he doesn’t want to go. “I have assured INEC that we will make available to them everything they need to operate efficiently, so that no one will say we don’t want to go, or that we want a third term. There will be no excuse for failure. We will meet all of INEC’s demands.”

Secessionists have continued to grow stronger in the country as many see the present administration’s nepotism in the lopsided appointments that favors a particular section of the country as a threat to the fragile unity of the country.

The clamour for restructuring earlier in the administration and the Confab report under the administration of Goodluck Jonathan could have helped reduce agitations, but it was never in the agenda of this administration. By the time Buhari leaves office, Nigeria’s unity would be at the weakest level since early sixties if it does not restructure and assure Nigerians that he is truly for everybody.

In the meantime, the Presidency has chosen the battle they can easily win. By intimidating civilians, killing innocent people, it is evident that Bandits, Boko Haram and several other sponsors of criminals in the North can be relieved to know that they are untouchable.
