The Edo State House of Assembly has adjourned plenary indefinitely following a bullet scare discovered on the seat of the Majority Leader, Honourable Jonathan Ibhamawu.
The discovery prompted lawmakers to evacuate the chambers, and the Edo state Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, was immediately notified to investigate the situation.
The plenary session was set to resume after the festive break, as lawmakers of the Edo State 8th Assembly converged at the chambers to tackle key developmental issues.
However, the sitting was disrupted when the majority leader and member representing Esan West constituency, Honourable Jonathan Ibhamawu, raised an alarm about a bullet on his seat.
The sudden discovery of the bullet brought proceedings to a halt.
Addressing the journalists, Honourable Ibhamawu said investigations are ongoing by the Nigerian police force to determine how the bullet got there, and legislative activities have been postponed indefinitely.
” It was strange to me that a bullet was seen inside my vehicle as it is now I don’t know the bullet type whether is AK 47, Barrel or Pump Action so is the Police that will determine that so let’s not be in a hurry let all of wait for the outcome of investigation of the police”
The chambers were subsequently locked down, and the press were, however, denied access.
Notably, the speaker of the assembly, Rt Honourable Blessing Agbebaku, was reportedly not around during the incident.
