Two persons whose identities are yet to be ascertained have been shot dead in Edo State by gunmen whose target escaped their deadly quest.
The victims who were shot at close range Sunday night were a taxi driver and his passenger.
The incident happened at Ehisomwenye street off Upper Erhunmwunse road in Benin City, the Edo State capital, according to a witness who said the suspected killers chased their target to the area but narrowly missed the target who drove through a bad spot along the road to escape.
The witness said when the killers could not pass through the bad spot, they decided to reverse but they could not immediately do it as the cab driver was coming behind them.
The source said the killers shot dead the cab driver and his passenger and drove away.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations officer in Edo state, DSP Moses Nkombe, said he travelled for official assignment.
Meanwhile suspected kidnappers have abducted three teachers of Ebomisi Secondary school, Ugbogiobo village in Ovia North East local government area of Edo state.
The abductors seized the three teachers from among six along the Benin-Akure road as they were returning from school. The are demanding for N30 million, according to some of the teachers who spoke to Daily Trust.
Students of the school yesterday abandoned classes and took to the Benin-Akure expressway to protest the abduction of their teachers. They set up bonfires on the road which left passengers and motorists stranded for several hours.
Asked on phone for comment yesterday, the Edo State Police Public Relations officer, DSP Moses Nkombe, said yesterday he was in Abuja for a conference.
