Employees of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, are voicing concerns over recent actions taken by the Apex bank’s management to move more workforce from the Abuja headquarters to Lagos.

In January, the CBN relocated some of its key departments from Abuja to Lagos, a decision that sparked outcry across the financial and political sectors.

Prominent Northern organizations and politicians expressed indignation about the decision as well, claiming that it would increase the economic divide between the North and South.

However, the federal government and the CBN denied the accusations, claiming that the choice was made to realign the bank and reduce expenses.

It was learned that certain employees were not pleased with the most recent change, which they considered unfavourable and inconvenient.

It was gathered that some of those affected by the new transfer are a reasonable number of staff of the departments of Human Resources, Security Services, ICT, Procurement and Support Services, and the Financial Policy and Regulations Department.

Some affected workers have already reported to their new Lagos duty post, while others have until April 29 to do so.

According to an insider source who requested to remain anonymous, some senior management employees posted their “relatives and girls friends” to “choice departments,” unaffected by the moves, while others received unfavourable postings.

The source said the latest action might result in nearly equal staffing levels at the Lagos branch and the headquarters.
