Pastor Michael Abiodun, 48, of The Light House Gospel Church, Oluwo, Owode-Egba, in the state's Obafemi Owode Local Government Area, has been detained by members of the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly defiling and impregnating a 12-year-old church member.
This information was released in a statement on Friday by SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the state's police public relations officer.
According to Oyeyemi, police at Owode Egba Divisional Headquarters received information that led to the pastor's detention.
According to the PPRO, the police came to the conclusion that the victim's mother joined the church in response to a spiritual issue that resulted in the deaths of two of her daughters. The real reason she ran to the church for deliverance.
“On the fateful day, the pastor, a father of three, asked the victim’s mother to send her to him for special prayer, but on getting there, the pastor took her into a room within the church and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her, which resulted to pregnancy," Oyeyemi stated.
He admitted to committing the crime during questioning but put the responsibility on the devil. He also admitted to being the perpetrator of the victim's deflowering, a JSS 2 student.
However, the PPRO claimed that Lanre Bankole, the commissioner of police, had ordered the transfer of the suspect to the State Criminal Investigation Department for more research and potential prosecution.
