Controlling boyfriend kills UNIBEN undergraduate, dumps remains at uncompleted building in Benin City
Miss Precious Ikpikhumi, 24, has been allegedly murdered by her lover in Benin City.
Precious, a final year student of the Institute of Health Technology, University of Benin Teaching Hospital, was murdered on May 1 2022.
Precious was due to graduate from the Health Institute this year, according to the information gathered.
It was gathered that the final year student meant her fate on her way to the church on Sunday after being accosted by her lover, 27-year-old John Aipoh.
For the past two months, the student had had a disagreement with her lover, who hails from Agenebode in Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State.
According to information gathered by Standard Gazette, Precious decided to end the relationship with John, who could not take no for an answer.
It was learned that John threatened to "end her" if she dared end the affairs.
SG gathered that out of fear, Precious sent audio to John's friend, expressing worry over her lover's plan to kill her if she refused to continue the relationship.
Precious went into hiding for fear of John's threat; however, on Sunday, May 1 2022, around 8am, John, accosted her and dragged her to an uncompleted building where he allegedly murdered her.
The young girl then went underground after the threat.
On Sunday, May 1 2022, Precious was on her way to the church around 8am when she was accosted by John in a quiet area.
She was dragged to an uncompleted building in the area where her lover reportedly strangled her with her scarf.
Precious's body was dumped in the nearby bush around the uncompleted building before the suspect escaped to an unknown destination.
With her whereabouts unknown, the worried family reported her missing to the police.
Investigators tracked John, and he was arrested with Precious's mobile phone in his possession.
Standard Gazette has gathered John has confessed to the police, detailing how he murdered the undergraduate.
He led the police investigative team to the site where he dumped his girlfriend's lifeless body.
Speaking to our correspondent, John said, "I carried out the murder out of anger as l do not want the girl to go.
"We had dated for four years. We started in Auchi and met in Benin again. I am into roofing and window aluminium work while she is a student.
She just said we should end the relationship, and I said 'No'. In fact, the police should just kill me as l am ready to die now".
As of press time, an Ambulance vehicle from a nearby hospital was already on the ground where the decaying body was conveyed to the mortuary.
Edo State Police command is yet to make a public statement.
According to the Commissioner of Police, CP Abutu Yaro, the police will make a statement in due course.
