A couple has been arrested by men from the Ogun State Police Command for reportedly selling their one-month-old baby for N50,000.
Onyebuchi Eze and his wife, Oluchi, lived in the Remo-North Local Government Area of Ogun State, on Ayegbami Street, Ilara, Ode-Remo.
The suspects were detained on Thursday by police officers at the Ode-Remo divisional police headquarters after they got information about the event, according to state Police Public Relations Officer Abimbola Oyeyemi, who made the announcement in a statement on Sunday.
The parents willingly sold their one-month-old kid to a lady who is now at large, according to the PPRO.
He said, “On interrogation, the suspects explained to the police that it was one Mrs Ruth Obajimi, who directed the yet-to-be-identified buyer to them.
“They stated further that the woman came to them on December 14, 2021, and told them that she was from the human rights office and that she would help them to foster their child.
The state Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, had ordered the suspects to be sent to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department's Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit for further investigation, according to the PPRO.
The commissioner has launched a manhunt for the purchaser, who has since fled.©Standard Gazette, 2021.
