Court affirms forfeiture of Lagos brothel to NAPTIP

A Federal High Court, Lagos on Tuesday affirmed an earlier judgment ordering the forfeiture of a brothel in Lagos to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic in Person.

Justice James Tsoho, in his judgment, dismissed an application seeking to quash the order of forfeiture as contained in the earlier judgment.

The application was filed by two brothers Taofeek and Lukman Jubril, seeking the court  to set aside the judgment by Justice Tijani Abubakar, who ordered NAPTIP to confiscate the property.

They had through their counsel,  Mr Ali Jamiu, maintained that the said property belonged to his clients’ late father Mr Mustapha Jubril and not those convicted for alleged human trafficking activities on the premises of the hotel.

Justice Tijani Abubakar, who delivered the earlier judgment in June 2007, had sentenced three convicts to five years imprisonment each for using the said premises for human trafficking activities.

The convicts, Helen Elele, Joshua Igborobe and Uyi Oni, in charge tagged, No FHC/L/138/2007, were convicted for conspiracy and human trafficking.

The brothel was located at No 1, Anjorin Odoguyan St., Ikorodu, Lagos.

Tsoho, on Tuesday upheldAbubakar’s judgment, and struck out the application for lack of merit.

Tsoho said, “I hereby uphold the order granted by the former trial judge, and order the premises located at No 1, Anjorin Odoguyan St., to be forfeited to the respondent.

“This application is accordingly struck out for lack of merit,” Tsoho ruled.
