The marriage between Mrs Bukola Hammed & Mr Abdu-Rasheed Hammed was today dissolved by a Customary court sitting at Mapo Ibadan.
Mrs Bukola Hammed, a trader who resides at the Boluwaji area of Ibadan pleaded the court to enact the dissolution of her marriage to Rasheed on the allegation that whenever he is drunk, he always beat her mercilessly, he is not responsible to be called a father as he will never care for their children’s welfare in any form, even schooling, and health-care.

“I would have filed a divorce long before now if not for my mother and the rest of the family that came around to resolve matters, she said, our landlord intervened on several occasion after which he made an agreement that he will not maltreat me anymore and will start to take care of our children, but there was no change at all. It was later our Landlord said if He will not change his behaviors, he will not involve himself in our affairs again.
“When he refused to change, I parked out of his house with our children since January, I thought he would have changed, I went to his house last week to pick some of my clothes, He started beating me immediately He saw me. He beat me to the extent that I was hospitalised for several days.”
The defendant in his own statement told the court that he is not ready to separate with his wife. He said “that before I got married to her, we had an agreement that she will be a good mother to my Children, I don’t have a mother and I was looking for a wife that 2 will assist me in taking care of my children, we didn’t have an agreement of divorce.
“My lord, there was a day I met a man with her sometimes, I don’t like this and I told my sister about it, she said I shouldn’t see it that way since She is a trader, maybe the man is one of her customers. She bought a land in my name, and we built the house together.
“When she started misbehaving, I bought another land on my own, she later changed the name on the previous document to her personal name and parked out with our children in January. and came back in March, but did not stay with me again. She started coming on and off. She came back sometimes and asked me to park out of the House, which I did. After I left she sent one Mr.
“Aderogba who is a co-landlord to me pleading that she had a dream and I should please come back, that makes me return home. I had no work at hand to be able to take care of our children, I only give to them what I have with me.”
After critical deliberation, the court presided over by Chief Agbaje Henry Olasunkanmi pronounced the twelve years old marriage dissolved and ordered the custody of the three children to Bukola for proper care and ordered Rasheed to be paying the sum of N10,000 monthly for the upkeep of their three kids!
