…..As Court set to give judgment on cultist members
A civil rights activist and Executive Chairman, Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice (CHRSJ), Comrade Adeniyi, Alimi Sulaiman has urged the Magistrate Court 1 of Ilaro Judicial division, presided over by Magistrate E.O. Adekunte, not to pervert the course of justice in a case involving some deadly cult members in the area.
Comrade Sulaiman on Wednesday disclosed that a case involving a 15-year-old Junior Secondary School pupil of Army Day Secondary School, Owode Yewa, Ogun State, Master Anome Emereh who had his hand chopped by some cultists who are currently on trial.
He named the accused as; Sulaiman Adesina Ebun, Lateef Ebunolorun and Ahmed Adesina, adding that they committed the dastard act on Wednesday 14th of February, 2018 at the premises of the School in Owode Yewa, Ogun State where they chopped off the right hand of Emere over his refusal to join them as a member of a secret cult group known as AYE.
He condemned the action of trial Magistrate O.S. Olusanya for setting the father of the Prime accused person, Mr. Sulaiman Adesina Ebun free despite the overwhelming evidence against him by aiding and abetting his son on the dastard act.
The source closed to the Court alleged that Mr. Ebun was arrested for aiding the escape of his children from the Police custody at the Owode Police Station on the second day that the incidence took place after they had been initially arrested by the police in connection with the incidence.
According to him; “We are appalled by the unbridled manner, with which the trial judge perverted the course of justice by setting the accused free on the frivolous ground on Wednesday 4th of July, 2018. Though, there is the ongoing trial of the two prime suspects pending before the E.O. Adekunte, a trial Magistrate at the Magistrate Court 1 in the same Ilaro Judicial Division”
While dragging the accused persons before the Court on a three(3) count charge, the Police Prosecutor, Inspector Gunnu Suru stated that Lateef Ebunolorun “M’ 15years and others still at large on 14th of February 2018 at about 2.00pm at Army Day Secondary School area, Owode Yewa in the Ilaro Magistrate district did unlawfully conspire to commit felony to wit, causing grievous harm on one Anome Emereh by stabbing him with a broken bottle on his right hand which led to the amputation of his hand thereby committed an offense contrary to and punishable under section 332 (1 sub-section 2) and section 516(1) of the criminal code laws of Ogun State of Nigeria 2006.
And that you Ahmed Adesina “M’ 19years in the aforementioned Magisterial district did unlawfully assist Lateef Ebunolorun and other still at large to escape arrest, prosecution and punishment after committing a felony and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 10 and punishable under section 519 of the criminal code laws of Ogun State Nigeria 2006.
After listening to the argument from both parties in the matter, the presiding Magistrate, therefore, adjourned the case till 16th of May, 2019 for a ruling.
