- Life/Death Sentence await cultists in Ekiti
A bill to attract death penalty for cultists and life imprisonment for anybody who harbours cultist has been sent to the Ekiti state House of Assembly by the executive for consideration.
If passed into law, the bill also plans to reward with N1m, anybody who could give authentic information on cultist.

The government’s latest stance was informed by recent killings of two students of the Ekiti State University, EKSU.
Similarly, the Deputy National Chairman (South) of All Progressives Congress and former Governor of Ekiti State, Chief Segun Oni has advised the Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities to adopt a common and uniform approach to solving the problem of cultism and other evil vices rampaging the nation’s ivory towers.
Oni, in a statement signed by his media aide, Steve Alabi in Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday , said a common position must be adopted to ensure that former cultists, who sometimes return to universities as staff and students, are prevented from infiltrating the campuses.
He said: “The Committee of Vice Chancellors must brace up to the challenges of cultism, which has become one of the most potent evils of the recent time.
They need to organize those students who do not belong to cults and security agents into anti-cult vanguards to monitor and check the activities of cultists on our campuses and report cult members to the university authorities and law enforcement agents,” Oni advised.
He was reacting to the killings at the EKSU where two students had been killed in the last two weeks by people suspected to be cultists.
