Delta State Police Command has arrested a mother who sold her eleven-day-old child for six hundred thousand naira and two others for child trafficking in Asaba.
According to the Delta State Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, while parading the suspect, including the mother of the child, said the woman confessed that she was lured into the crime simply because she was abandoned by her boyfriend during pregnancy and she had no money to take care of the child.
The Nigerian police added that the vendor who bought the child from the suspect resold the baby for four million naira.
The child’s mother and other accomplices confessed that they were all involved in the crime.
The Delta State Police, however, assured they would not rest until those responsible for baby factories in the state are brought to justice.
