Fresh concerns have been raised over persistent kidnapping incidents in parts of Edo State, following a recent attack on a commercial bus along the Benin-Ore Expressway.
The incident, which resulted in the death of the driver and the abduction of passengers, has renewed calls by residents for aggressive highway patrols and heightened security measures to ensure safety.
A commercial bus belonging to GUO Transport Company, with registration number FA 280 YJ, conveying five persons, was attacked by unknown armed men suspected to be kidnappers on 19th of April, 2026.
During the attack, the driver was fatally shot, leading to his death.
One female passenger also sustained fatal gunshot injuries, while three others were abducted by the assailants and taken into a nearby forest.
Reacting to the incident, residents decried the recurring attacks and growing threat to lives, calling for intensified highway security and proactive measures to curb criminal activities.
“The kidnapping situation is increasing every day in Edo State we are now leaving in fear in our land it’s now looking like we don’t have a Government we are looking up to God for rescue because the situation is unbearable”
Meanwhile, the Edo State Police Command, in a statement released by its Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem, says it has launched an investigation into the incident.
The Command assured the public of its commitment to securing the safe rescue of the abducted victims and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
“We are aware of the ugly incident and we regret the death of the drive it is only unfortunately however the police is already trailing the kidnappers in a bid to free the ones in their Custody”
