Five out of the six suspects arrested for the abduction and murder of a Benin-based lawyer, Barrister Osiobase Omo-Iyoha, have been sentenced to death by hanging.
One of the suspects, Solomon Esuike, who was arrested alongside the five convicted suspects, was discharged and acquitted.
It will be recalled that Barrister Omo-Iyoha was allegedly assaulted and taken away on May 9, 2020, following an intervention in a street quarrel between a scion of a local chief’s family and another individual.

Delivering the judgment after a detailed analysis of the statements of the accused and arguments of the prosecuting and defense counsels the trial judge, Justice Efe Ikponmwonba found five out of the six accused, valentine Debbie, Solomon Onobu, Ambrose Amadi, Enoma okunghae and Saturday IMAGBE guilty of conspiracy, abduction and murder and sentenced them to fourteen years in prison for conspiracy and abduction and death by hanging for murder, both to run concurrently.
Counsel to the second defendant, Solomon Esuike, who was discharged and acquitted for having no link with the incident, Barr. Dauglas Ogbankwa hailed the judgment.

The alleged prime suspect in the Abduction and murder case, Osasu Osadolor, is still at large.
