The Enfield Drag Queen, Sissy Lea, is no longer a stranger in the Enfield community since he dived into the Drag Queen world.
Massimo Malluzzo is the owner of one of Enfield's most popular coffee, Zippola coffee, by day and a Drag Queen by night.
The Italian who loves to dazzle, lives in Waltham Cross and first stepped into the Drag Queen beauty in 2019.
The supremely confident Sissy Lea is coming out with a new single he titled 'Camouflage Veil' scheduled to release today, Saturday 22 May 2021.
Sissy Lea told Standard Gazette that his double life comes with many challenges too - "Sometimes it's hard waking up at 6 a.m after a gig, or sometimes there is no time to sleep at all if I'm performing far away, such as Liverpool or so."
The dedicated Drag Queen fuels his ambition through the support of his fans and particularly his team at the coffee shop who understands his dream.
"I am lucky I have an amazing team at the shop, which gives the opportunity to step out a little earlier to go home, do my make-up and go to whatever location/venue I have to perform," he said.
The new single would resonate with millions of people out there who are afraid of being misjudged.
Sissy Lea said his new song is a metaphor for those trying so hard to blend in the background out of fear of being seen as "different".
"The song is all about standing out and being ourselves," "It takes on the theme of dancing as we can all dance, but we often worry about what others might think about us.
"Well, this song is about dancing to your heart's content. I dance because I feel the music; I dance because I want to express myself, not to impress others," he explained.
He continued, "The only opinion that matters is my own. In the words of the great RuPaul, 'what other people think of me is none of my business".
Just like many others, the now confident Sissy Lea had it difficult at the beginning. He had stage fright as he was worried about how people would understand his Italian accent.
"Probably the biggest challenge is the language. I am an Italian Drag Queen based in London; my first language is Italian."
"it actually took me a while to figure out that my accent was my strength; people love the fact that they have no clue what I am saying," he said, confident.
No wonder the coffee shop owner/Drag Queen is doing everything he can to boost the confidence of those who might still be worried about others opinion.
His love for the Drag Queen act started during a date night with the husband, Noel, in Spain.
Massimo was perplexed and thrilled after witnessing her first Drag act, and since then, he hasn't looked back.
"I loved it, absolutely loved it, and I knew at that minute that I wanted to become a drag queen," he explained.
When asked how he combined both jobs, he said, "I cope very well managing the Zippola, my coffee shop and being a drag queen. I love both jobs, and I can't give up any of them yet. Thankfully I often can combine both of my passions as we have Drag shows at Zippola, which I host."
Sissy Lea has gained many supporters and followers in London, where he started as a Drag Queen. He described Londoners as "open-minded" where diversity is very welcome.
He has gained much support from the LGBTQ+ community. However, he acknowledged transphobia but described it as "ignorance."
When asked if he ever had a challenge coming out, he said, "Oh dear, I'm Sicilian; I guess that was the hardest decision I ever took in my life. But I have the coolest family on the planet. I remember my dad saying, 'I thought I loved, you but I love you even more now. Be who you are as long you are happy.' My only regret is that I wasted many years in the closet, but it is never too late to be your best self."
Sissy Lea is definitely young in the Drag Queen's act, but his confidence and dedication has kept him upright and ahead of his
Camouflage Veil Lyrics
You think that I'm crazy 'cause I dance
If you can't hear the music
You think that I'm gaga cause I'm dancing loud.
You think that I'm crazy 'cause I dance
If you can't feel the music
Watch me strap my heels on, wig on, lipstick on.
'Cause you can see me moving
Behind my camouflage veil
I'll join you on the dance floor
When you say so, say so, say so,
You wanna see me
Chasse your dance heels
Sashay your hips
Twerk to the music
Move it for me.
Chasse your dance heels
Sashay your hips
Twerk to the music
Dance and be free.
I don't give a blink about the splits
But I can snap my fingers
I can't do the Vouge
But I can flick wig
I don't give a damn about shablam
But I can do a dance slop
I can't do the duck
But I can do a twirl
'Cause you can see me moving
Behind my camouflage veil
I'll join you on the dance floor
When you say so, say so, say so,
You wanna see me
Chasse your dance heels
Sashay your hips
Twerk to the music
Move it for me.
Chasse your dance heels
Sashay your hips
Twerk to the music
Dance and be free
'Cause you can see me moving
Behind my camouflage veil
I wanna see you
Chasse your dance heels
Sashay your hips
Twerk to the music
Move it for me.
Chasse your dance heels
Sashay your hips
Twerk to the music
Dance and be free
Chasse your dance heels
Sashay your hips
Twerk to the music
Move it for me.
