A former All Progressives Congress (APC) Senatorial Candidate in Edo South, Hon. Samson Osagie has openly pitch tent with the embattled deputy governor of Edo State, Barr. Pius Odubu over the governorship race in the state.
Odubu has been facing a hard time since he announced his intention to run for the governorship primaries scheduled to hold in June.

Hon. Osagie who is currently the Director of Strategy, Research, and Planning, Odubu Campaign Organisation aired out his position on Friday on why Odubu is the best candidate for the All Progressives Congress in the state.
The former Federal lawmaker condemned any attempt to separate the deputy governor from the achievement made by the current administration led by Oshiomhole as the achievement was a combined effort of both the governor, Adams Oshiomhole and the deputy.
Hon. Osagie said ” It has become imperative for me to unequivocally state with all the emphasis at my disposal that at this critical point in the politics of Edo State,Edo Deputy Governor Dr. Pius Odubu remains the best choice of the APC in the governorship election coming up later this year.
“I state this with the greatest respect to all other aspirants who equally parade enviable credentials for the plum job not because they are not qualified but because the art of ascension to political leadership in a modern democracy requires much more than possession of sound academic credentials or some experience in varied fields of human endeavor.
“Again , with due apology to others Odubu stands tall as one who has had the benefit of personal interaction more with party members and citizens across the state for a period not less that 15 years now.

“Secondly, there appears to be an unspoken vote of no confidence in politicians with the introduction of Technocrats as best in administration. Why no objective basis has been established for this introduction, politicians across board in Edo state, particularly in the APC, right now are determined to enthrone one of their own as Governor and that is Dr. Pius Odubu who has had the benefit of serving as a Federal Legislator and a deputy Governor, a feat none of the other aspirants has attained.
“In fact, it is an insult to the collective sensibilities of all those who have served in one position in government or the other to say that they don’t qualify to Govern. It’s beginning to sound like a rhythm only in Edo state. In our neighboring Delta State, for instance, the current Governor Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa was a Local Chairman, a Commissioner, an SSG , a Senator before becoming the Governor in a contest that pitched him against his predecessor Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan.
“That being said Dr. Pius Odubu haven worked very closely with the active Comrade Governor to attain huge development milestones in the last 7 1/2 years, it is, therefore, an act of sheer selfishness, wickedness, and absurdity for anyone to say that he was not part of the success story but that an appointee was. Indeed, it smacks of a self indictment.
“That Odubu participated fully in this government is without any doubt unless the Comrade Governor wants to tell the world that he has been marginalizing him which Odubu has not told anyone.
“Odubu knows the language of the average politicians who are members of the party and can speak it very well for them to understand. Perhaps it is fitting to say that party members across Edo State now do not want a Technician or Technocrat as the case may be.
“Who says a Lawyer of thirty years standing cannot make a good Governor? Who says a two-time Federal Lawmaker cannot Make a good Governor? Why would anyone suggest that an 8 year Deputy Governor does not understand governance and all its complexities?
“Elsewhere people of lesser public service experience have led and some are still leading their state. Why not Odubu?
“For the APC in Edo State, the people must be allowed to Lead. Odubu connects much more easily with the people and stands a better chance to lead the party to victory. It’s shouldn’t be the prerogative of a person or a coterie of the sycophant to decree the next Governor.
“And whatever special or extraordinary quality one may have it can be deployed to governance not necessarily by been a Governor but to be able to rule or lead you must be elected first and foremost.
“Consequently, I urge all delegates to elect Dr.
Pius Odubu who is also one of them being a statutory delegate to all party congresses and convention to lead the party to victory in the next Governorship election.
“Together with Edo people and all other aspirants the enviable work of this administration will be sustained and advanced.”
