The Edo State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) said it will commence a warning strike with effect from November 10 following the expiration of the 21-day ultimatum given to the state government to address the challenges confronting the sector.
It alleged that the government had failed to address the issue of inadequate manpower and health facilities which it said had been the major problems confronting the sector.

He said the doctors had tried to reach the governor to discuss the issues to no avail.
Responding, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr David Osifo said the NMA was too hasty to issue ultimatum. He said the government was aware of the problems and had already started tackling them before they issued the ultimatum.
“We are aware of the problem of under staffing because for the past ten years there was no employment in that sector. A committee has been set up to collate all dilapidated structures in the health sector and fix them. We already have the blue print of what to do and work will commence soonest,” he said
