Edo police arrest suspected cultists threatening residence in Auchi

Four suspected cultists threatening and intimidating residents in Auchi, Edo State, are in police custody on suspicion of threat to life and possession of dangerous weapons.

They were trailed and arrested at Igbe Road, Auchi, on 27 March 2022, by the operatives of the anti-kidnapping and cybercrime unit.

The arrest is in connection with the complaint made by one Abubakar Ibrahim of Auchi, Etsako-West Local Government Area of Edo State.

Abubakar claimed the alleged hoodlums, who were armed with cutlasses, guns and other dangerous weapons, had shot his brother and another man.

Standard Gazette gathered that the suspects, Goodluck I. ‘M’ (28), Nosakhare Ken ‘M’ (32), Omosuwe Austin’ M’ (28), Femi Ado’ M’ (32), recorded the assaults on video and later posted it on social media.

SG learned that the hooligans threatened their victims to leave Auchi town or risk being killed.

Their arrest, SG learned, was ordered by the Deputy Commissioner of Police Operation, DCP Miller Dantawaye.

During the interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime, stating that they were members of a secret cult group, our reporter gathered.

Items recovered from them include; One English Pump Action gun, One Live cartridge, five expended cartridges, three face Caps bearing the name of their confraternity, One Blue facemask.

Police say the investigation is still ongoing as the suspects will be arraigned in court soon.
