bn The Edo State Police Command has arrested twenty-one students of Ogioma Public Secondary School, aged between 14 and 17, over alleged involvement in cultism and an attempted attack on a neighbouring school in Benin City.

According to a statement released by the command’s public relations officer, CSP Moses Yamu, the suspects were apprehended on Wednesday after operatives of the Loveworld Division, acting on credible intelligence, swiftly mobilised to Osemwende Public Secondary School, Oghoghobi, Ikpoba Okha local government area off Benin-Sapele road, where the students had reportedly stormed the premises in a convoy of motorcycles, allegedly to carry out violent acts.

According to the police, the students suspected to be members of rival cult groups had earlier circulated a threat voice note in which they boasted of plans to stage a war, burn down the school, and harm students and staff.

“Twenty-one of the invading teenagers were arrested, while others escaped. Items recovered include four knives and a metal chain.

Eight of the suspects have been remanded, while thirteen were released to their parents and guardians, who are expected to present them in court on the next adjourned date, 28th November 2025. xv”

The police also invited the principals of both schools for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, urged parents and guardians to pay closer attention to the activities of their children, while calling on school authorities to strengthen discipline and report suspicious behaviour promptly.
