Edo state police command says its attention has been drawn to a misleading report in the various social media platforms that a full load of Sienna bus with its passengers kidnapped have all been killed.
The misleading report went viral some days ago.
The report said the passengers were all killed after ransom was collected from their family members.
In a statement signed by the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bello Kontongs, the Police received information that a Toyota Sienna belonging to a private transport company was intercepted on 7 July 2021.
The vehicle was travelling from Ekpoma to Benin city when kidnappers attacked at Igue-Ozevbara village on the Benin-Ekpoma road where all the occupants, including the driver, Eric Ehiaguna, were forced into the forest.
SP Kontongs said that all the six kidnapped victims were rescued unhurt the same day.
The police PRO said the command has earlier issued a press release on 8 July 2021, where the rescue was announced.
The Police named the occupants of the said Toyota Sienna to include Pastor Samuel Ojiefoh, Mr Osotie Gregory, Mr Iredia Justice, Miss Mercy Ikpefuan, Mr John Odiase and Mr Eric Ehiaguna.
The Police then advised members of the public to disregard the misleading report, which is capable of causing unnecessary panic in Edo state as an incident of such happened in Edo state.
