Edo Police Go Berserk On Criminals, Suspected Kidnappers, Robbers Arrested Across Benin

Several suspects were arrested across Edo State by the Edo State police command.

On 10 January 2022, at about 6.30, a team of security agents led by the Divisional police officer, DPO South Ibie CSP Emmanuel Agbo, stormed a suspected criminal hideout.

They had received a tip that robbers had taken refuge in South Ibie campus 11, terrorizing occupants and residents in the area.

Bishop Christopher, 22 and John Abuda, 24 were arrested during the operation.

The police recovered one English pistol, two live ammunition and a battle axe from the suspects.

The police said on Wednesday said the suspects had confessed to the crime, and a “bolo” had been placed for the fleeing gang members.

The suspects would be charged to court once investigations are concluded.

In a separate incident, the police arrested a suspected robber who attacked a tricycle rider, Uwenyi, 33, at Uwasota Road, by Texaco petrol station in Benin.

The incident happened on 10 January 2022 at about 9 pm.

Police received the tip that four suspects had robbed the hapless rider and robbed him of his belongings – cash and mobile phones.

DPO textile Mill Road police, SP Olayinka Adeleye and his men arrested Godstime Ownede, 25, and recovered the stolen mobile phones.

The police said the suspect confessed to the crime.

Similarly, on 11 January 2022, at about 11 pm, the officers arrested some suspected armed robbers disguising themselves as vigilante members.

The robbers were said to have robbed some persons within the Benin metropolis.

Standard Gazette gathered that three suspects – Michael Blessing, 27, Monday Onojie, 46, and Joseph Agho, 26 were arrested.

The suspects claimed they were working under a commander nicknamed Dada.

Edo State Police Public Relations Officer SP Bello Kontongs said the suspects are cooperating with the police for effective investigation. They have given helpful information that would lead to the arrest of other conspirators in the name of the vigilante.

“Suspects will be charged to court soon.,” he said.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Philip Ogbadu, commended the efforts of the command and vigilante members for nipping the situation.

He assured the resident that the command had put in place strong measures to ensure the safety of lives and property.

CP Ogbadu called on all law-abiding citizens of Edo state to continue to support and cooperate with the police towards ensuring a more secured Edo State where economic activities will flourish and prosper.
