The Edo State Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, FDC, has issued a security advisory to Point-of-Sale operators across the state following reports of criminal elements targeting them, particularly in isolated or poorly secured locations.
The warning, as contained in a statement released by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Moses Joel Yamu, came after a meeting between the Commissioner of Police and the Executive members of the Association of Mobile Money and Bank Agents in Nigeria, AMMBAN, at the Command Headquarters in Benin City.
During the meeting, both parties agreed to work together to improve the safety of POS operators and their customers.
The police, however, urged operators to work in well-lit, populated areas, limit cash on hand, remain vigilant, install CCTV where possible, control access to their premises, avoid night operations, and take note of unfamiliar customers.
According to the statement of the public relations officer, “The Command also encouraged operators to keep police emergency numbers handy and promptly report any suspicious activity.”
