Edo Police Smash Four Armed Robbers Suspects

Four suspects alleged to have engaged in series of armed robbery operations have been arrested by men of the Edo state Police command in Nigeria.

The suspects who were arrested following a tip-off have been on the police wanted list for weeks now. The names of the four suspects were given as Eric Onyekwe 19 years, Daniel Ibahan popularly called “Ninety Naira” 19 years, Emmanuel Okafor 18 and Gbenga Raymond 21.

According to report, the suspects belong to the set of abandoned children who sleep Iyaro, Kings Square, Pedestrian Bridge at the University of Benin Main Gate and Sakponba road by M.M. Way all in Benin city, Edo state Nigeria.

The police investigation, however, revealed that the four suspects are members of an alleged armed robbery gang that has been terrorising Benin city and environs in Edo State.

The report revealed that the suspects who were armed with a makeshift gun and cutlasses were said to have robbed students and other residents in Ekosodin around the University of Benin, Ugbowo- Benin city. The alleged armed robbers also stormed a house at Osasogie in Ugbowo, Benin City where they attacked and robbed some persons who were relaxing in the front of their house around 7.30 PM.

Further Investigation disclosed that the suspects specialise in snatching mobile phones, bags and other personal effects from people walking through the ever-busy Kings square in Benin city, especially at night.

In one of the instances, the suspects posed as policemen at the Mission road end of Kings Square in Benin city where they attacked and robbed women who were returning from evening church service. Mobile phones, cash and other personal items were collected from the women.

The Edo state commissioner of Police, Johnson Babatunde Kokumo said, there will be no hiding place for criminals in Edo state. The police however released emergency phone numbers for anyone in distress to call.
