Two suspects have been arrested by a combined team of the Edo State Special Security Squad, the Edo State Security Corps and Personnel of the Nigeria Police Force.
The raid on the suspected kidnappers’ hideout within the forest of Amah community in Etsako West Local Government Area is part of a renewed crackdown on criminal elements across the state.
The operation, led by the Principal Security Officer to Gov. Monday Okpebholo, Saturday Okoh, commenced following an intelligence gathering involving different security agencies at Eko-Waya community in Esan Central Local Government Area.
With accurate information gathered, the team proceeded on an over two kilometres trek into the dense forest of Amah community in Etsako West, where they identified an isolated building suspected to be a base for kidnapping activities.
The team subsequently arrested two individuals suspected to be linked to a notorious kidnapping syndicate operating within the axis and recovered an army Uniform, charms and other items.
Addressing journalists after the successful raid, Spokesperson for the Special Security Squad, Eribo Enwanta, disclosed that the operation was carried out following credible intelligence reports, assuring that the suspected leader of the syndicate has been declared wanted.
Also speaking, the Zonal Commander of the Edo State Security
Corps, Joel Aidamebor alleged that the wanted suspect, identified as Best, had been engaging kidnappers from different parts of the country and lodging them at camps in various forest locations across Edo state.
The latest operation marks another significant step in the ongoing efforts by the state government and security agencies to rid Edo of kidnapping and related crimes, particularly in forested areas, which are often exploited by criminal gangs.
