The Edo State Ministry of Education said the placing of ban on kindergarten and nursery pupils’ graduation ceremonies was placed to curb unnecessary expenses imposed on parents by private and public schools, while also ensuring that early childhood education remains focused on academic and moral development rather than elaborate social events.
The Commissioner emphasised that pupils at the kindergarten and nursery levels are too young to be subjected to the formality and financial burden associated with graduation ceremonies.
He also added that Schools should concentrate on improving teaching standards and creating a solid foundation for learning rather than organising events that put avoidable pressure on families.
The Ministry urged all schools in Edo State to adhere strictly to the new directive, warning that any violation would attract appropriate sanctions.
“It has become imperative to ban such graduation in kindergarten and nursery because the way pupils are exploited is worrisome, especially during this period of economic hardship.
Measures will be taken for full-time compliance, as any school, whether public or private, found wanting would be prosecuted.”
