Edo State Government has ramped up efforts to combat crime and criminality within the state by demolishing properties linked to kidnapping activities.
The latest action was the demolition of a building in the Esioriri-Erah area of Owan East Local Government Area, owned by a septuagenarian, Karimu Audu.
During the demolition, Special Adviser on Security to Governor Okpebholo, Paul Akhare explained that the decision followed a comprehensive investigation.
He said authorities established that a septuagenarian, Karimu Audu, was reportedly an informant for kidnappers who have been terrorizing parts of the state.
Akhare emphasized that the demolition is a clear demonstration of the state government’s commitment to eradicating crime and serves as a stern warning to others involved in such activities.
Earlier in the week, the task force also demolished buildings in Illeh Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area, and Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area.
The properties were identified as having been used by kidnappers to hold their victims.
The Edo State Government has reiterated its resolve to ensure the safety and security of citizens through the recently amended anti-kidnapping laws, which allow for the demolition of properties used for kidnapping purposes.
