Edo State Government has admonished residents residing within flood-prone areas to relocate to the Internally Displaced Camps established as emergency measures to prepare the state against flooding.

Commissioner For Public Security and Safety Kingsley Uwagbale disclosed this during a press briefing at the state’s Command and Control Centre in Benin City.

However, with about 25 Edo communities along the bank of River Niger submerged in flood following the release of water from Lagdo Dam in Cameroon, the state government is taking proactive measures to minimize the expected impact of flooding in the affected areas and other flood-prone areas across the state is the way to go.

Towards sensitizing the public on the preparedness and steps taken by the state on flooding as advised by relevant authorities, Edo State Commissioner For Public Security and Safety, Kingsley Uwagbale, said the state government had provided temporal accommodation across flood-prone areas of the state and is working in collaboration with other agencies to ensure the safety of lives and property of citizens.

The Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMet) had predicted that twelve states would be prone to flooding in the coming days.

They are Borno, Adamawa, Taraba, Benue and Nasarawa.

Others are Kogi, Edo, Delta, Anambra, Bayelsa, Cross River and Rivers States
