El-Rufai Vs NLC: The Dictator in a Democratic ‘Agbada’

Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai and NLC President, Ayuba Wabba have been in the news over protests and strike action embarked upon by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the generalissimo composture of the Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai.

On Tuesday thugs attacked workers at a rally organised by the workers as the strike in the state entered the second day.

The NLC, in a statement by its  Acting General Secretary, Ismail Bello, condemned the attack and threatened to embark on a nationwide strike.

Earlier, the state Governor,  Nasir El-Rufai, had declared the NLC President, Ayuba Wabba, wanted for economic sabotage. Many Nigerians called out the APC Governor by bringing out pictures, videos and tweets when he joined the labour union to protest during Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.

The state workers had on Monday begun a five-day strike over the governor’s retrenchment of 45,000 workers and the alleged anti-labour policies of the government. It is the latest tragedy of individuals who change their stands after getting into political office in the country. They ride under the wings of impunity even within a Democratic establishment and become the law.

The strike paralysed the state on Monday as civil servants, aviation and rail workers joined the industrial action.

As 2023 beckons, all things being equal, Nigerians unfortunately have lesser choice in electing individuals who must have been picked by the two main political parties.
