A 30-year-old armed robbery suspect has been arrested by men of the Edo state police command.

The suspect, Paul Freedom, was arrested at Ikpoba Hill in Benin city, Edo state.

Paul, who belongs to a gang of suspected armed robbers, has been on the police wanted list since January 2021.

Police said he belongs to a gang of armed men terrorising Lucky Way, Iwogban and environs in Ikpoba Hill, Benin.

Standard Gazette gathered that many hawkers and shop owners around Lucky Way in Benin City had been attacked several times by the said gang.

The gang allegedly robbed a middle-aged man around Lucky Way in Ikpoba Hill. They forced him into a nearby primary school in the locality and cart away with his mobile phones and money after beating him to stupor.

According to the victim in an interview, ” He brought out a gun and collected my money and mobile phones”.

“He beat me, seriously, and I thank God that he has been arrested”.

The suspect said ‘I sold the mobile phones to second hand phone sellers at second-hands Square in Benin city”.
His confession led to the arrest of the man who bought the stolen mobile phones.

The Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bello Kontongs, said the armed robbery suspect and the man who bought the stolen items would be investigated and charge to court immediately.
